Résumé

Recently, we proposed a polarization independent high-Q Guided Mode Resonance Filter, with a centering wavelength tunable with the angle of incidence [1]. The structure is composed of two identical half structures fabricated on each side of a thick substrate (see Fig. 1). Each half structure has a 1D sub-wavelength grating engraved on the top of a multilayer stack (see Fig. 1), and the two half structures are assembled with an angle (different from 0° or 90°) between the two grating directions of periodicity, x and y’ on Fig. 1. When the plane of incidence is the bisecting plane between x and y’, two eigenmodes can be excited for the same wavelength, which depends almost linearly on the polar angle of incidence, and with almost perpendicular polarization. The resonance phenomenon leads, in the reflectivity spectrum of the component, to a thin polarization independent peak. Theoretically, we predicted a filter with a Q factor of 13 000 at 1.6 µm, tunable over 100 nm with a reflectivity greater than 99% at resonance, independently on the incident polarization. To our knowledge, no equivalent performances are reported in the literature for free space filters (Fabry-Pérot filter), nor other Guided Mode Resonance Filter structures.
