Abstract : These past decades have been characterized by a massive evolution of the Internet in all areas, covering applications and network technologies. As a result, new requirements for applications and new network constraints are emerging; thus rendering the protocols (TCP and UDP in particular) less and less efficient, and several new protocols have been proposed. However, due to several architectural limitations of the Transport layer, these new protocols have not been deployed. Based on this observation, the work carried out in this thesis deals with the proposition and the realization of a transport-oriented, service-oriented and component-based layer architecture, with extensibility and self-adaptation capabilities vis-à-vis changes in the application and network context. The proposed solution is based, on the one hand, on a weak coupling between the external elements (applications and systems) and the Transport layer, as well as between the internal components of the architecture. On the other hand, it is based on models and algorithms that allow it to detect and take into account changes in the network or applications, and adapt its behavior accordingly. A complete implementation of the solution is proposed and tested in a satellite aeronautical communications framework. The goal is to manage the transition of protocols specific to the aeronautical world to Internet protocols, as well as the management, at Transport level, of heterogeneous physical links. The tests demonstrate the feasibility of such an extensible and autonomous architecture, the performance gains that can be achieved, and the resulting costs.
